Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) study, an integral component of the drug discovery process, uses analytical method to detect the distribution of test compounds and biomarkers in normal or model disease animals, so as to describe the effect and efficacy of drug dosing over time. PK/PD study helps better understanding of the relationship between drug exposure, efficacy and toxicity, and is an important tool in guiding the design of future preclinical and clinical evaluations. We can calculate PK parameters such as area under the curve (AUC) and maximum concentration (Cmax) or other specific parameters to determine drug exposure.
